The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee LOC, Dr George Nwaeke, has assured athletes, officers and visitors attending the 43rd Public Service Games in Rivers State of a hospitable stay.

Nwaeke, who is also the Head of Service, Rivers State Civil Service, gave this assurance in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, where he expressed excitement that the state was hosting the competition after about 16 years.

He welcomed participants to the state, assuring them of the State’s readiness to stage the annual sporting event.
“They are welcome to Rivers State. Rivers is fully prepared, the governor and the entire people of Rivers State are very happy to welcome all Nigerians to Rivers State for this year’s public service games.”
The LOC chairman also expressed hope that by the end of the games, the visitors will become ambassadors of the State as a result of their experience in the Garden City.
“I want them as they leave Rivers State to know that Rivers State remains the garden city of Nigeria and the traditional hospitality of Rivers people is what we actually want to showcase to them, that Rivers is peaceful, hospitable and a place for every Nigerian to visit.
“We want to as much as possible make Nigerians to know that the governor of Rivers State has done alot to restore the lost glory of Rivers State, especially in the areas of security and the hospital nature of Rivers people.
“As they will be leaving Rivers State, I want all of them to become ambassadors for Rivers State to tell the story because there is no better way to tell our story than to make them know what we are like and for them to tell the story for us.”
About 10,000 athletes and officials from the 36 states of the country will participate in the Games tagged Simplified Rivers 2024 from 27 November (today) to 5 December across four designated  centres – Uniport Sports Complex, Port Harcourt Club, Basketball Court at 59 Niger Street and Sharks stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held.
