The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter has pleaded with His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike to rescind the decision to demolish DAAR Communications Limited, the owners of AIT/RayPower FM, Port Harcourt.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairperson Rivers State, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana and the Secretary, Dr Ngozi Anosike, pleaded with the state government to explore other amicable options to resolve whatever issues and differences may be.
NAWOJ expressed worry about the recent notice by the state Ministry of Works to demolish the office of AIT if it is not relocated within 48 hours.
According to the Association, it is aware of the issues raised but urged the state government to reconsider its stand. The media house is a corporate umbrella under which women journalists actualise their professional calling and contribute their quota in nation-building.
NAWOJ further pleaded for reconsideration based on the shocks and losses which employees, their households, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders will be exposed to in an era of high unemployment and poverty being experienced in the country if the business is forcefully shut down.
They pleaded with the government to listen to the voice of women journalists in the state and other interventions made by various professional associations and well-meaning Nigerians regarding demolishing AIT Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
