Man remanded in prison for killing woman in Edo

A High Court in Benin has remanded a man in the Oko Custodial Centre for allegedly killing a woman, Precious Ikpikhumi, in Benin City, Edo State.

The defendant, one Aipoh John, was arraigned on one count of murder, punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48, Vol. II, Law of the Defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable to Edo State.

The prosecuting counsel, Orobosa Okunbor, told the court that on May 1, 2022, John, around Ugbowo area, Benin City, murdered Ikpikhumi.

John was said to have accosted the lady while she was going to church and dragged her to an uncompleted building, where he allegedly killed her.

The presiding judge, Justice M. Isuele, however, remanded the accused and adjourned the case till January 18, 2023, for a hearing after the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
