10 unidentified corpses discovered in Edo community

No less than 10 corpses of yet-to-be identified persons have been discovered in Ibillo/Lampese, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that some of the bodies were first discovered by farmers in the early hours of Tuesday, and were said to have notified a local vigilante group, who combed the area and discovered more bodies.

Speaking to journalists, a resident, Victor Arogunyo, said the police and medical personnel from the General Hospital in Ibillo, had proceeded to deposit the bodies to the morgue.

He said, “On Tuesday morning, I got a call that our farmers who were going to the farms saw some dead bodies littered on the sides of the road around 7.30am; I rushed there and actually found out that it was true. Immediately, we got in touch with the police and eventually, we found 10 dead bodies.

“The corpses seem to be fresh because blood was coming out of the mouths of about two or three of them but there were no signs of gunshots because the police tried to check for signs of gunshots, which they couldn’t find.

“With the general hospital in Ibillo, the police, the civil defence and hunters, we removed the dead bodies from the bushes and they have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ibillo.”

Confirming the discovery, the state Police Spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said 10 male bodies were discovered, adding that an official statement will be released soon.

Nwabuzor said, “I just spoke to the DPO, Ibillo division, and he is going to send us detailed information and the police will react officially. But he said there were 10 male bodies, no females were found.”
