A man has reportedly lost his life after suspected herdsmen reportedly macheted him to death in the Urhuoka community in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased, identified as Oghenevwoke Okpako was said to have been killed to death in the community’s farmland and buried in a shallow grave by his assailants.
It was gathered that the victim was killed when last week when he went to the farm to fetch firewood.
Sources said a search for him began on the same day when he did not return home and his phone was not reachable.
Consequently, vigilante members and some members of the community were said to have resorted to an intensive search of the farmland and eventually found his remains in a shallow grave in the forest.
The search team also discovered that the deceased had machete cuts on several parts of his body, suggesting that he might have struggled with his assailants.
Meanwhile, worried indigenes of the community have called on the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene in the community situation in the community.
Speaking on the development, the community’s President General, Deacon Stephen Avweneghagha, said he would continue to pacify the aggrieved youths to remain calm and not resort to reprisal attacks while noting that the porous security system in the community may lead to food scarcity if not resolved.
