Group demands re-arrest of sexual abuser freed by Police

A Human Rights Advocacy Group, Centre For Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign, has called on the Rivers State Police Command to re-arresst one Azunna, a man of about forty years old, alleged to have defiled a 12-year-old girl in Eleme local government area of the state.

The National Coordinator of the Group, Prince Wiro, in an interview with Journalists, urged the Commissioner of Police, CP Friday Eboka, to prevail on the Police Division in Nchia, in Eleme local government to rearrest Azunna, who was released under unclear circumstances by the Division without justice been served on the case.

Wiro expressed displeasure that the suspect who is alleged to have committed such a heinous crime is walking freely in the streets of Eleme, while the victim and family are in serious emotional pain and trauma.

He, however, urged CP Friday Eboka to order an investigation into the matter and instruct the case file to be transferred to the advanced unit such as State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department( SCIID ) or Human Rights Desk at the Police headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, for proper investigation with a view to serving justice in the case.

Meanwhile, the family of the twelve-year-old girl victim has written to the Commissioner of Police CP Friday Eboka through their Lawyer, E.B.Igwe Esq.

The victims family In a letter dated 3 December 2021 and received by the office of the Commissioner of Police urged the Commissioner to use his good office to bring justice to the victim, to the accused and society at large.
