Ikpeazu orders CP to arrest Policemen alleged to have raped students

Following the alleged rape of three students of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, by a policeman attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during a raid on one of the off-campus apartments.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Janet Agbede, to investigate and arrest the security agent behind the act.

Academic activities were Friday brought to a halt, following a protest by students of the institution, who occupied the Aba-Owerri road over the harassment of three female students by police operatives.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, said that the Governor is monitoring the situation to ensure the protection of all law-abiding citizens.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the police authorities to ensure full investigation and prosecution of officers who are engaged in harassing law-abiding citizens to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The Governor is actively monitoring the situation with the alleged harassment and rape of the polytechnic students with a view to ensuring the protection of all law-abiding citizens.

The wife of the Governor, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, also visited the victims, assuring them that justice will take its course in the development.

She also directed that the victims be transferred to another medical facility for better care while warning those who are allegedly threatening the victims to prepare for the full weight of the law.
