Following the incessant brutality and illegality perpetrated on innocent citizens by some police personnel especially in Rivers State and the country at large, civil society advocates have called for a thorough psychiatric test on the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Vice-Chairperson, Rivers State Civil Society Organization, Sophia Daniel Sonime said: “Most of the Police personnel are criminals in their actions.
“The police need to undergo a psychiatric test so that they don’t become toxic to society.
“We have seen cases where some of these security agents committing suicide and in some cases killing themselves which is as a result of mental illness.
“It is a must for the police to be subjected to psychological test so that we don’t have many cases of human right abuses and extrajudicial killings by the police in the state and county.

“Looking for money through the back door (corruption) or misbehaving which some police personnel are deeply into is a mental case in itself.
“As a police operative, you must be civil at every point in time because you are paid with the taxpayers’ sweat to protect the lives and property of the people and not to be their nightmare.
“But if the police personnel are not mentally stable, they will rather be destroying the Innocent lives they are being paid to protect.
“That is why there is a need for them to undergo psychiatric test and evaluation.
“We are losing confidence in the security agencies especially the police that are supposed to relate directly with the civil populace.”
Our correspondent reports that the Rivers State Railway Police Command is another Police Division that is highly into brutalising and arresting innocent citizens and if its officers and men are not called to order, they will be committing extrajudicial killings in Rivers State.
