Ateke vs APC chieftains: Court sets date for ruling

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned for ruling, the pending motions on the one billion naira defamation suit by Amayanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, King ATEKE TOM against eight chieftain of the All Progressives Congress.

King Ateke Tom filed a 1 billion naira defamation suit against 8 chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The chieftains which include Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Hon Asita, Tonye Princewill, Chikodili Dike and others accused the traditional ruler of aiding violence in the state during a pro-sars protest in Port Harcourt in 2017.

Counsel to first, third and fifth defendants, had filed a motion seeking to striking out of the substituted service by counsel to the claimant, GRANVILLE ABIBO a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, which is challenging the purported service of court processes through substituted service.

The presiding Judge, Justice E. TEETITO after hearing arguments from counsels to the parties in the matter adjourned till 16th of May for ruling on the motion.

SOPAKIRIBA BATUBO, JUSTICE CHINEME-WILLIAMS and HYCENT OKWUKWU counsels to some of the defendants who spoke to our reporter Tina Amanda said the ruling on the next adjourned date will determine whether the matter will still continue.

Counsel to King ATEKE TOM, GRANVILLE ABIBO declined to speak on the court proceedings.
