Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Wizkid has recently opened up about why the global fashion brand Puma chose fellow artist Davido for a partnership over him.

In a heated social media exchange, Wizkid addressed the ongoing rivalry between the two music icons.

The online clash was sparked when an X (formerly Twitter) user, @NelsonEpega, accused Wizkid of being frustrated and envious of Davido’s new deal with Puma. The accusation came amid the ongoing supremacy battle between the two superstars.

Responding to @NelsonEpega’s comments, Wizkid revealed in a viral post that he had rejected an offer from Puma because they couldn’t meet his financial demands.

He wrote: “U idiot! I turned down Puma because they could no longer afford to pay me because I wanted more! Don’t need that! Way bigger than every artiste you just mentioned! Not jealous! love them all. With ur dirty ass shirt! Idiot!”

Wizkid further clarified that while Puma is a well-respected brand, their budget for Africa wasn’t sufficient for his stature. “No! Puma is a Big brand! But the budget they had for Africa wasn’t for me! Was cool for your client tho!” he added.

In the midst of this escalating rivalry, controversial singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, weighed in on the feud between Wizkid and Davido. Portable claimed that both artists were using their public disputes to stay relevant in the music scene, alleging that their music no longer has the same market appeal.

In a post on his Instagram story, Portable criticized the stars for promoting their careers through conflict. “Don’t use your brother to shine, shine yourself. Una songs no dey market again, na fight una dey use do promotion,” he said.

He added that he wasn’t aligning himself with either party in the feud, declaring his independence: “Me, I no dey for Davido. Me, I no dey for Wizkid. I dey for myself. That’s why I dey for those who dey for me.”

As the social media rancor continues, the two Afrobeat giants have yet to respond directly to Portable’s remarks.
