The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of aviation fuel from N1,750 to N1,650 per litre in a move expected to ease mounting pressure on airline operators across Nigeria.
The company announced the reduction in a statement on Monday, noting that the decision forms part of broader efforts to stabilise fuel supply and support the aviation industry, which has struggled with soaring operating costs in recent months.
Domestic airlines had earlier warned of possible disruptions to flight operations as the cost of Jet A1 fuel surged sharply following tensions linked to the United States-Iran conflict.
Operators said aviation fuel prices, which previously sold for about N900 per litre, climbed to between N2,700 and N2,900, while some marketers reportedly sold the product for as high as N3,300 per litre.

Beyond the price cut, the refinery also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility for marketers and airline operators, backed by bank guarantees. It further announced a transition from dollar-based pricing to a naira-denominated structure aimed at reducing the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations on fuel purchases.
Industry stakeholders have repeatedly raised concerns over the increasing cost of aviation fuel, describing it as one of the biggest expenses for airlines and a major threat to the sustainability of domestic flight operations.
Analysts believe the latest intervention by the refinery could help reduce airlines’ fuel expenses, improve operational stability, and potentially moderate airfares for passengers.
