In a major push towards technological advancement and youth empowerment in the O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre for Digital Innovation has been commissioned on Wednesday 8 April, 2926 in Obonoma community in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Akuku-Toru LGA, Hon. Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, who was the special guest of honour, described the project as a strategic investment in bridging the digital divide and driving inclusive growth across the council area.
Hon. Bob-Fubara said the state of the art facility, named after Opuda (Alabo) Dumo Lulu-Briggs Iniikeiroari VI, the Paramount Head of the Oruwari Briggs War Canoe House of Abonnema and Ebuye Lulu II of Abonnema, is expected to serve as a hub for digital skills acquisition, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Hon. Bob-Fubara, while commending the initiative, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for socio-economic development.
He noted that the centre aligns with ongoing efforts to promote digital literacy, support e-governance, and diversify the local economy.
“The establishment of this ICT centre is a clear demonstration of our resolve to prepare our people, particularly the youths, for the opportunities of the 21st century,” the chairman said.
Equipped with modern infrastructure, the centre aims to provide residents, especially young people, with access to cutting-edge technology, training programmes, and resources that will enable them to tackle local challenges and seize emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
With the launch of the O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre, Akuku-Toru residents are expected to benefit from improved access to digital tools, skills development programmes, and platforms that will enhance governance and create new avenues for economic growth.
