As the Rivers State governorship election draws nearer, former Governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has clarified that he has not endorsed any candidate.
Speaking on Monday evening at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, during a joint meeting with stakeholders from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike said such decisions are the responsibility of party elders.
He urged caution against hasty endorsements and warned that personal ambitions could create internal divisions.
The minister highlighted that the group’s current political strength stems from unity and dedication, not financial incentives. He also noted that external actors are attempting to sow discord among the stakeholders due to the group’s record of effective collaboration.
Wike expressed disappointment at certain individuals who, after benefiting from the group’s influence to secure appointments, have criticised the leadership. He described such actions as a lapse in integrity and warned that attempts to undermine others through deceit would fail.

He further remarked that many who once sought his guidance now find it difficult to meet him eye to eye.
Addressing speculation about endorsements for local offices, Wike dismissed rumours of private support, asserting that his public and private positions remain consistent. He stressed that, at present, the only official endorsement recognised by the group is for the presidency.
Wike reiterated that he has not endorsed any candidate at the state level for either the PDP or APC and will not do so until party elders have convened. The sole endorsement made by the group is for President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasised his commitment to transparency, stating: “What I say at night is the same as what I will say in the daytime.”
The minister commended council chairmen, Rivers elders, and the leadership of both parties for successfully coordinating the gathering. He noted that the absence of complaints regarding member inclusion was a clear indication of the meeting’s success.
