Joy at GSS Eneka as Students Praise 2008 Alumni for Book Donations

Overwhelmed students of the junior session of Government Secondary School Eneka, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, are full of praises for the 2008 Set of Old Students’ Association.

Their excitement was following the distribution of writing materials from the Old Students’ Association of Government Secondary School Eneka 2008 sets, on Tuesday, March 24, 2025.

In an effort to boost learning and support the children’s education, the alumni distributed three exercise books and two pens to each of the student during the morning devotion.

Commending the association for its gesture, the boy prefect of the school, Chisom Nduwube, said, “we are grateful for this support. We pray that almighty God will bless them for remembering our school and coming to share this to us.

“There are students that their parents can afford this, there are also students that do not have books, so this will really help us when we resume next term.

“It’s not a small gift, they used money in buying these things. Three books and two pen is more than N1,500, they used their money, bought it and gave to us, so are grateful, we say thank you and God bless you.”

Addressing the students, a senior officer of the school, Mr. Princewill Ihunwo said, “you know the very best way to show appreciation is to say thank you. Each person I believe have three copies of the exercise book and two pens, in as much as you have these, what they are trying to tell you is that they passed through here, they have finished university and they want you to be more than them.

“The books you have been given is not for you to go and be playing with it, don’t tear it, when you go, keep it well for the next academic session, write your names on them.”

He charged the students to encourage others to be punctual to school, regular and ensure they always attend the morning assembly before classes.

Speaking with TPCN in an interview, the GS 08 Secretary General, Mrs Edith Duru, explained that, “we are here to launch our ‘Make Mama Proud’ campaign. Being that this is our alma mater, we believe this is the best place to begin, sustain, retain and continue.

“The essence of this campaign and outreach, is to encourage these younger ones that their is gain in integrity, having the fear of God, being disciplined, diligent, studious, obedient to parent and teachers.

“Also to let them know that there is pain in premarital sex, early pregnancy, drug abuse, cultism and other social vices. Finally to give them the little token of book and pen, to encourage their academic pursuit. We have encouraged them that today and now is the best time to prepare for the better future they long for and that achieving it, becoming that medical doctor, lawyer, pilot, teacher, accountant, engineer, pastor, all those dreams are very much achieved.”

Duru explained that Government Secondary School Eneka Old Students’ Association 2008 Set is a body established with the sole aim of giving back to the alma mater, which she said inspired their visit to the school.

She added that the association was making other efforts to organise competitions such as spelling bees, debates, football and several others.

Also, Mr Bello Dauda Opeyemi, the welfare chairman of the association while distributing the writing materials assured the students of more supports from the association.
