Upgrade Public Schools Now, Says Former Rivers State NOA Director

A former State Director of the National Orientation Agency and retired teacher, Mr. Oliver Nworogbom, has called on relevant authorities in the education sector to urgently upgrade facilities in public schools across Rivers State.

Mr. Nworogbom made this appeal during a an interview with Port City, where he expressed concern over what he described as the deplorable state of public schools in the state.

He noted that many school facilities have remained outdated and neglected for years, making it difficult for students to learn in a conducive environment.

Mr. Nworogbom also urged the government to strengthen support for the National Orientation Agency and ensure the employment of qualified teachers to address gaps in the system.

“Part of the problem increasing is that population is increasing facilities in ground are the same and over time those facilities begin to depreciate get bad and the response to it is not fast so it requires government to keep up their game, that is as they have intake every year they should also be upgrading their facilities” he said.

He stressed that without immediate intervention, the challenges facing public schools may continue to worsen, affecting the quality of education for future generations.

The Retired teacher, expressed concern that successive administrations after former Governor Amaechi have not given adequate attention to the education sector.

Mr Wolugbom added that responsibility should not rest solely on the government, noting that school authorities, particularly principals, must be held accountable for the management and condition of their schools.
