The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, has denied owing any verified or legitimate staff of the council salaries.
Lloyd stated this in response to the peaceful protest on Monday, March 16, 2026, by alleged staff of the LGA, who called on the governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the State House of Assembly, to have mercy on them and intervene to ensure that the LGA chairman pays them their salaries.
The protesters claimed they had worked for 2021, 2022 and 2023 without any payment. According to them, when the LG boss resumed on August last year, he supposedly denied them their entitlement till date.
They also revealed that they had completed the required verification exercise ordered by the governor, and expressed worry that after the exercise, rather than pay them in arrears, the LG boss supposedly refused to pay them for seven months.
They insisted that they are Emohua council workers, and have been verified deserved to be paid as promised the governor by Lloyd who assured that after the exercise he would pay anybody whose name appears on the workers list.
Some of the protesting women who claimed that their children have been sent out of school, lamented over what they described as untold hardship they and their families had to endure because of non-payment of their salaries.
In his response, the Emohua LG boss affirmed that, “yes, the governor of Rivers State ordered a staff verification exercise since last year.
“I am told that they are asking for the report of the exercise to be released. When the report of the exercise comes out and anybody’s name is there, I will pay. I am fully responsible for staff of Emohua Local Government.
“I love the security read that some alleged staff of Emohua are going on a peaceful protest to government house and I said yes, that should be the right way to go.”
