Passengers Injured As Trailer Hits Bus In Rivers-Bayelsa Road

Mr Promise Wosu Junior, popularly known as Wene Port Harcourt, and his team rescued a two-month old baby and other victims of a tragic road accident that occurred along Rivers-Bayelsa Road on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Wene Port Harcourt who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered on foot, rushed victims of the accident to Rumuji health center, with the help of members of his team.

The tragic road accident which left passengers injured happened as a trailer rammed into a bus from behind, causing the bus to lose control and somersault multiple times on the highway.

The two-month old baby had injury on her head, the mother’s left arm was badly affected, while other passengers had different degrees of injuries.

In an interview with TPCN, Miss Ayomide Olawuyi, a member of the team who spoke on behalf of Wene Port Harcourt, explained that, “we are on our way to Bayelsa, around Ahoada axis, on our way going a trailer hit a bus and the bus somersaulted and scattered on the floor and stopped right at our back.

“First, we drove forward and then parked. So everybody had to leave everything to go and rescue the people and that’s what happened.

“A little child and the mother were in the bus. We took them to the health center at Rumuji, that’s where they are. The child had serious injury but they put bandage on her head. The baby is just two months.

“We thank God that we came in on time because people were just watching, it’s best that we were there and we had to leave everything we were doing. They entered the car and we drove them to the nearest hospital which a bike man directed us to.

“People were just busy doing other things, it’s really disheartening.”

On the 1,050 farthest distance covered on foot, she revealed that it would not affect the movement. “We wanted to use it for our break but I don’t think. We will have to start a fresh, we are starting afresh. It can start here, it’s the kilometers that is counting.”

31-year old Promise Wosu Junior, who kicked off the exercise at the University of Port Harcourt, is expected to walk from Rivers State to Lagos for a period of eight days; March 14 to 21, 2026.

Wene Port Harcourt, from Ikwerre ethnicity, is a graduate of the Department of Accounting, University of Port Harcourt.

Speaking on the GWR record breaking, Wene said. “Yes, I’m a graduate. I graduated from this institution; UNIPORT in the year 2019. I studied Accountancy. I have struggled alot, from my level 100 till final year was not easy, money for textbooks down to suit for my defense but I succeeded.

“The first time I did this, from Lagos to Rivers State was in October 2023. For me, it’s about making a difference, impact lives. Some persons have lost will, motivation like I did, àll they see is impossibility but I want this to motivate them to put in more efforts, change their mindset and see success.”

On his security, he said “there is nothing to fear. My team and I ware very safe and we trust God to see us through this exercise.

“The most important thing for me in this is to inspire Nigeria youths to identify opportunities, expand their thoughts, though nothing good comes easy but it’s achievable where there is determination.”
