Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed the five new commissioners in Rivers State to their portfolios. Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth and Amairigha Edward Hart were inaugurated by Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
In the ceremony, he called on the appointees to “continue to fulfil their duties in an effective manner for the development of the state.”. Friday saw the governor announcing their specific assignments. The responsibility of performing Special Duties was given to Mr Bellgam, while Mr Nwofor was assigned to the Ministry of Works.
Mr Naranwale took over the Education portfolio, followed by Kenneth who was appointed as Commissioner for Finance and Budget, and Hart with Urban Development and Physical Planning.Fubara emphasised that the commissioners would be responsible for strengthening governance and encouraging development in vital regions of the state.
Moreover, he stated that the Rivers State House of Assembly’s examination confirmed those candidates who fulfilled the necessary qualifications to be a competent member of the State Executive Council.

The governor stated that the lawmakers had already established the responsibilities for the offices during the screening process, and he was confident that they would meet the expectations of the commissioners.
The appointees’ ability to meet the rigorous screening requirements was proven by him, as he stated that they had done so successfully.David Ihua-Maduenyi, the Chief Registrar of the High Court in Rivers State, administered the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office to the commissioners.
During the plenary session, Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, confirmed that the nominees have met the requirements set forth by the legislature.Additionally, he made known that four other nominees were rejected by the Assembly after members voted against their confirmation during the 9th session in March.
Mr Amaewule announced that the House would inform the governor of its decision, including the reasons for rejecting the nominations of Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams and Otontonie TKD Amachree.
