Akuku-Toru LGA Chairman Unveils 2026 Budget Proposal

The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area (LGA), Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara, has submitted the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Legislative Assembly. In a statement released by the state government on Friday evening, the proposed budget was described as the “Budget of Inclusive Growth, Development and Renewed Hope.”

Bob-Fubara explained that the N14.93 billion plan is designed to improve service delivery across all 17 wards of the local government. He emphasised that 2026 will be a year marked by consistency in governance and developmental efforts.

Breaking from the traditional view of budgeting as a routine administrative exercise, the Chairman described the Appropriation Bill as “a development-oriented financial plan aimed at addressing citizens’ needs, stimulating economic activity, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all communities in Akuku-Toru.”

He told lawmakers that the budget, if fully implemented, would cater to the LGA’s pressing developmental requirements. The plan prioritises education, security, and community development, while also acknowledging the importance of other sectors.

Bob-Fubara highlighted that his administration would maintain close collaboration with security agencies and community leaders to safeguard lives and property across all wards.

Funding for the budget is expected to come from three main sources: a statutory allocation from the federation account estimated at N12.82 billion, internally generated revenue (IGR) projected at N108 million, and loans/borrowings capped at around N2 billion. He assured that the local government would be protected from undue financial strain, and confirmed that total planned expenditure aligns with the projected revenue of N14.931 billion for the fiscal year.

The Chairman further noted that the budget focuses on capital projects over recurrent spending, with investments earmarked for infrastructure, education, healthcare, sports development, economic empowerment, and other key areas. He stressed that the implementation of the Appropriation Bill will be guided by transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

Bob-Fubara also promised regular financial updates to both the Legislative Assembly and the public. The Chairman described the budget as practical, financially sustainable, and capable of driving growth and renewed optimism for the people of Akuku-Toru. In response, the Leader of the 10th Akuku-Toru Legislative Assembly, Daye Bobmanuel, commended Bob-Fubara for highlighting programmes that directly benefit the public and pledged to expedite the passage of the bill through the legislature.
