The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has presented a ₦20.04bn Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Ikwerre Legislative Council for consideration and approval.
In a statement published on the Rivers State Government’s website on Friday night, Wobodo formally laid the budget before councillors at Isiokpo, the administrative headquarters of the council.
A breakdown of the proposal showed that more than ₦13 billion, representing 66.6 per cent of the total estimate, had been earmarked for recurrent expenditure. In comparison, over ₦6 billion was allocated to capital projects.
Wobodo explained that the budget would be funded through statutory allocations, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Value Added Tax (VAT) proceeds and other legitimate revenue streams available to the local government.

He described the 2026 proposal, tagged the “Budget of Service and Renewed Hope,” as a strategic financial plan aimed at addressing pressing grassroots challenges and strengthening service delivery across the local government area.
According to him, once passed into law, the appropriation would prioritise critical sectors, including education, the renovation and rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres, the second phase of the rural electrification scheme, school upgrades and other community-focused projects designed to improve living standards.
Responding, the Leader of the Ikwerre Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Samuel Oboni, assured that the bill would undergo rigorous legislative scrutiny. He added that the council remained committed to ensuring that the final budget reflected the collective interest and welfare of the people of Ikwerre.
