Akuku-Toru LG Chairman Hosts 103 Battalion Commander

The Executive Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Hon. Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, has hosted the Commanding Officer of the 103 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel G. E. Ameh, in a courtesy visit aimed at bolstering security collaboration in the riverine council.

The meeting, held at the council secretariat, served as both a familiarisation exercise for Lt. Col. Ameh—marking his first official engagement with the local government since assuming command—and a strategic session to map out joint efforts against emerging threats in the creeks and coastal communities.

Discussions focused on concrete strategies to sustain the relative peace currently enjoyed in Akuku-Toru while decisively confronting security challenges peculiar to the area’s difficult terrain.

Lt. Col. Ameh lauded Hon. Bob-Fubara for his proactive leadership, particularly the prompt logistical support extended to security agencies whenever required.

He described the chairman’s approach as a model worthy of emulation, one that underscores the priority of safeguarding lives and property.

The Army commander urged the council boss to sustain the momentum of such partnership, stressing that effective synergy between civilian authorities and the military remains key to denying criminal elements any operating space.

Responding, Hon. Bob-Fubara thanked Lt. Col. Ameh for the visit and the commendation. He reiterated his administration’s total commitment to the security of all residents of Akuku-Toru, often referred to as Akulgans.

“Security is the bedrock of development. Without peace and safety, no meaningful progress can be achieved or sustained,” the chairman stated.

“That is why we shall continue to accord top priority to the protection of our people, in close collaboration with our gallant security forces.”

The parley ended with both leaders pledging to keep communication lines open and work jointly to ensure Akuku-Toru remains impenetrable to criminals and other destabilising forces.

The engagement highlights the growing emphasis on grassroots-level security partnerships in Nigeria’s riverine areas, where military presence and local government support are seen as vital to tackling kidnapping, oil theft, and other maritime-related crimes.
