Just In: Bayelsa Assembly Confirms New Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Pastor Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of the state. The assembly validated Akpe’s appointment during a plenary session held on Tuesday morning.

Prior to his nomination for the deputy governorship, the new appointee worked as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri. A member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Akpe’s professional journey includes roles in both civil service and politics

He has worked within the civil services of Rivers and Bayelsa states before fully committing to a political career. The newly appointed deputy governor was also a two-term representative in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, where he held the position of majority leader throughout his tenure.

Additionally, Akpe served as a commissioner starting in 2008 and 2011 under the Seriake Dickson administration.The endorsement paves the way for his formal inauguration as deputy governor. The pastor’s selection comes after the passing of Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the previous deputy governor, who died last December.
