Abiodun Hails Rivers United Rival

Joseph Abiodun has expressed satisfaction after finding the net in Enyimba F.C.’s 1–1 draw against Rivers United F.C. in Sunday’s high-profile NPFL encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The People’s Elephant, playing their first match under new head coach Emmanuel Deutsch, made an early statement. In the 28th minute, Abiodun rose highest to head home after Chidera Michael’s initial header, giving the visitors a deserved lead in a fiercely contested rivalry clash.

Rivers United responded before the break, as Aniekeme Okon capitalised on space inside the box to level the score in the 42nd minute, ensuring both sides went into halftime on equal terms.

For Abiodun, the goal carried personal significance. The 26-year-old, formerly of Sunshine Stars, was making his first appearance in the second stanza of the season. After the final whistle, he described the encounter as physically and mentally demanding but valuable in outcome.

“It was a very tough match, but we thank God for the point we got,” he said.

“Returning to the field for the first time in this second stanza of the season hasn’t been easy. This is my first match in the second round. I’m very grateful; I thank God.

“I believe this is the start of many good results and more points to come for the team, as well as more goals.”

He stressed that the draw was earned through preparation and resilience.

“It wasn’t an easy game, and everybody knows that,” he added. “We prepared our mind for this match because the point is very important to us. Thank God we eventually got the point, and we are prepared for our next match against Kun Khalifat.”

While Rivers United continue their push near the top of the table, Enyimba will see this result as a platform to build momentum under their new technical direction.
