APC Wins Ahoada East II Bye-Election

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Napoleon Ukalikpe and Henrietta Bulabari, have won the bye-elections conducted in Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana II State Constituency in Rivers State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ukalikpe the winner of the Ahoada East Constituency II poll at its office in Ahoada town.

The Returning Officer, Rosemary Ogu, announced that Ukalikpe polled 3,980 votes to secure victory.

Ogu stated that the declaration followed the upload of results from 86 out of 87 polling units to the INEC Results Viewing Portal, representing 98.85 per cent of the total results.

In the Khana II State House of Assembly bye-election, the Returning Officer, Angela Briggs, declared APC candidate Henrietta Bulabari the winner after she secured 7,647 votes, affirming that she met all constitutional requirements.

The breakdown of votes showed: AA (46), APC (7,647), NNPP (37), YPP (23), and ZLP (47). Out of 71,914 registered voters, 7,834 were accredited, while 7,800 valid votes were cast. Thirty-four votes were rejected. Party agents witnessed the collation and declaration of results.

Reacting to her victory, Bulabari expressed delight at the outcome, describing the election as free, fair, peaceful and successful. She pledged to execute impactful constituency projects that would improve the lives of her constituents.

The Port City News (TCPN) reported that across Ahoada East the exercise was largely peaceful and orderly but recorded low voter turnout amid noticeable voter apathy.

Processes were described as smooth, with seamless accreditation and voting aided by good network connectivity for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
