President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged young participants of the Federal Government’s National Health Fellowship Programme to serve the country with honour, humility, and courage, assuring them of support to secure their future careers.
The President gave the charge on Tuesday in Abuja during the first National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health, where he described the fellows as a critical force in transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system.
According to him, the programme, championed by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, selected young professionals from each of the 774 local government areas to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
President Tinubu said the fellows represent the energy and competence needed to drive the government’s Renewed National Health Alliance, noting that their contributions would help build stronger health systems across communities.
“We are working to secure your career paths through the federal structure and support from development partners,” he said, urging them to carry a spirit of altruism as they serve.

He also called on the fellows to collaborate closely with traditional and religious leaders to ensure effective service delivery, stressing that they would provide the operational backbone for national health reforms.
The President further appealed to community leaders to support government efforts toward achieving universal health coverage, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity in the country.
Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammed Ali Pate, thanked the President for his leadership and presented the 2025 State of Health of the Nation Report, which he said formed the basis for the summit’s dialogue.
The event drew prominent traditional rulers and religious leaders from across the six geopolitical zones, including Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, among others.
Leaders of major faith groups also pledged to champion community healthcare initiatives within their constituencies as part of efforts to expand access to health services nationwide.
The National Health Fellowship Programme is part of broader reforms under the Tinubu administration aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health sector and improving outcomes for citizens.
