Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare and accelerating infrastructural development across the state.
The governor made the pledge as he marked six years in office, having assumed office on 14 February 2020.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Diri said he had demonstrated that governance was not about rhetoric but about people-centred action, unity and sustainable development since taking office.
He noted that through strategic policies and bold infrastructure projects, his administration had continued to redefine governance and set Bayelsa on a clear path of inclusive growth, peace and prosperity.
He further stated that beyond politics and partisanship, he had consistently built bridges of peace, unity and mutual respect among Bayelsans.
According to him, his government matched words with action by constructing roads and bridges that connected once-isolated riverine communities, thereby unlocking new economic and social opportunities.
Diri said his administration had tackled critical infrastructure and initiated legacy projects previously considered impossible.
He added that his government shifted focus from paper qualifications to practical skills acquisition by establishing new Science, Technical and Vocational Education Colleges across the state to equip youths with relevant, productive and self-reliant skills.
The governor also said he expanded the Bayelsa State Health Insurance Scheme to cover more citizens, renovated several primary healthcare centres and established a modern haemodialysis centre.

He maintained that his administration had continued to fulfil the long-standing aspirations of Bayelsa’s founding fathers by committing to development projects across the eight local government areas.
While expanding Yenagoa, the state capital, through new and dualised roads, he said his government simultaneously constructed major roads and bridges across the three senatorial districts.
He highlighted landmark projects such as the Nembe–Brass Road, the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie Road and the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge Road. He also cited the construction of a major bridge across the River Nun at Angiama, with connecting roads to Otuan and Oporoma.
According to him, the River Nun bridge was not merely an infrastructure project but a bold statement of vision and commitment that could only be undertaken by a leader determined to uplift his people.
Diri further listed the road project from Ekeremor Main Town to Agge, with the first phase terminating at Toru-Ndoro and a spur to Peretorugbene.
He added that the Akaba–Ogu–Okodi Road, which opens up several riverine communities in Ogbia, was nearing completion alongside other ongoing projects across the state.
The governor also announced the commencement of the Agbere–Abuetor–Osekwenike–Asamabiri–Elemebiri road project in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission, aimed at boosting economic activities in riverine communities in Sagbama Local Government Area.
He said Bayelsans at home and in the diaspora had expressed admiration for the Prosperity Administration’s resolve to ensure that transformative projects were not abandoned, noting that these developments would significantly improve the socio-economic lives of riverine dwellers.
Diri assured residents that his government had prioritised the development of riverine communities through the completion of the three senatorial roads, adding that he would be pleased to see more people using the roads to access their communities.
