Rivers Commissioner Advocates Workforce Excellence with NLC Committee

The Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Apawari Uranta, emphasised the importance of fostering workplace harmony and ongoing professional development as essential factors for achieving institutional excellence and empowering women.

Dr Uranta expressed this viewpoint on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, during a courtesy visit from the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Committee at her office in the Ministry’s headquarters.

In her welcoming remarks, the Commissioner praised the NLC Women Committee for its unwavering advocacy for the well-being of female workers and reiterated the Ministry’s willingness to engage constructively with organised labour groups dedicated to promoting women’s rights and opportunities.

She emphasised the significance of maintaining cordial labour relations, encouraging the new executives to foster cooperation and dialogue rather than confrontation. In her view, a peaceful and collaborative work atmosphere between management and employees is fundamental to productivity and long-term development.

Dr Uranta also highlighted the importance of ongoing capacity building, indicating that on-the-job training and continuous retraining are vital for keeping the workforce relevant in a rapidly changing professional environment. She urged the NLC Women Committee to lead initiatives focused on skill acquisition and development that would improve efficiency and competitiveness among female workers.

She mentioned that the leadership of the committee is dedicated to enhancing the connection between female employees and policymakers by engaging in intentional collaboration with the Ministry.

The Commissioner expressed her support for the partnership proposal, highlighting shared interests such as workplace fairness, skill development, and safeguarding women’s rights, especially in the informal sector. She remarked that a collaborative strategy would lead to more significant and lasting results.

The meeting was characterised by mutual respect and a collective commitment, as both sides agreed to keep communication lines open and pursue proactive solutions to the challenges faced by working women. The visit concluded with a renewed commitment to collaborate in improving the socio-economic welfare of women through education, solidarity, and professional advancement.
