NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results as Over 80% Record Five Credits

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, with more than 80 per cent of candidates securing at least five credit passes.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

In a video shared on NECO’s official X platform, Wushishi confirmed that the results had been uploaded and were accessible online. He said candidates could check their performance on the council’s website using their examination registration numbers.

According to him, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination across 16 subjects, made up of 51,823 males, representing 53.43 per cent, and 45,156 females, accounting for 46.56 per cent. Of this number, 95,160 candidates eventually participated in the examination.

In English Language, 93,425 candidates sat for the paper, with 73,167, or 78.32 per cent, achieving credit level and above. Mathematics recorded a stronger performance, as 85,256 out of 93,330 candidates, representing 91.35 per cent, earned credit passes or higher.

Overall, 68,166 candidates, or 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. When English and Mathematics were excluded, 82,082 candidates—representing 86.26 per cent—achieved five credits or more.

On examination misconduct, the NECO boss disclosed that 9,016 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice, marking a 31.7 per cent rise compared to the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

He also revealed that five supervisors—two from the Federal Capital Territory and one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states—were recommended for blacklisting over their involvement in examination irregularities. In addition, four examination centres, including two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano states, were proposed for de-recognition due to widespread malpractice.

The SSCE External is mainly taken by private candidates who are not enrolled in the regular school system. NECO said the examination provides an alternative pathway for candidates seeking certification or aiming to improve previously obtained results.
