Did Lookman Make A Mistake?

‎Before the conclusion of the January Winter transfer market, La Liga heavyweight club, Atlético Madrid officially confirmed the signing of Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, on a permanent transfer from Atalanta.

‎The Spanish La Liga club announced on its website; “Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have agreed on the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed for us until 30 June 2030.”

‎For authenticity purposes, Fabrizio Romano, a high Italian football transfer expert had earlier reported that there was a twist in Lookman’s transfer with Atlético usurping Fenerbahce to reach an agreement with Atalanta for the Nigerian international.

‎Romano wrote on Sunday in a post on his verified X account “Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid, here we go! The agreement is in place in every detail.”

‎The fixed fee for the transfer is €35 million, €5m add-ons to Atalanta and a long term deal agreed by Lookman after the decision last night (Saturday). Atlético, planning now for travel and medical next for the Nigerian.”

‎No doubt that Ademola Lookman is a player that represents an eternal enigma to opposing players. Opponents appear handicapped from discerning what he will do next on the field of play. The big question remains; Can he ring the la Liga ‘big bell’?

‎With Ademola Lookman’s recent form in the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON), it will be satisfactory to say that the Nigerian international will make waves in the Spanish La Liga.

‎Atletico Madrid have moved quickly and deliberately to ensure Ademola Lookman is ready for Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Real Betis. The Spanish giants are reorganising schedules and routines to accelerate Lookman’s introduction.

‎In a clear signal of intent, Atlético actually pushed back Monday’s training session to 4:00pm, a decision taken specifically to guarantee Lookman’s presence from the outset. The head coach Diego Simeone wants the winger embedded with the group as quickly as possible, believing the upcoming Betis tie offers an immediate opportunity to deploy his new attacking option.

‎Atletico Madrid currently ranked 3rd on the La Liga league table with 45 points, 10 clear points adrift the leader—FC Barcelona, still having a total of 16 league matches to play before the end of the season. Which means, Atletico Madrid are already prepared to perform ‘magic’ in the league.
