NDDC Delivers Ogu Community Road Network, Royal Hall

Ogu in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State has received a major infrastructure boost with the commissioning of a 9.4-kilometre community road network and a 1,500-seater Royal Hall by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The projects were inaugurated during a ceremony attended by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who praised the Federal Government’s (FG) efforts in advancing development in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking at the event, Wike expressed admiration for the level of planning and execution evident in the projects.

“The NDDC has made a positive impact on the lives of the people of Ogu,” he said, adding that the performance of the current NDDC leadership demonstrates a strong commitment to community development.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, described the road and town hall as visible results of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the Commission was focused on spreading tangible benefits to communities in the region.

He also urged local residents to take responsibility for the maintenance of the new infrastructure.

According to the NDDC Director of Project Monitoring and Supervision, Engr. Gbenga Omowale, the road network comprises phases one and two, covering a total of 9.45 km with an average width of 7.3 m.

The project includes reinforced concrete line drains, slabs, and ring culverts, designed to enhance connectivity among Ogu and neighbouring communities and improve socio-economic activities along the route.

The 1,500-seater Royal Hall features modern amenities such as acoustic walls for sound and heat control, multiple air conditioning units, firefighting equipment, and an advanced public address system.

The NDDC Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Boma Iyaye, while speaking at the ceremony , said the projects had brought joy to the people of Ogu and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to spreading development across the Niger Delta.

Chief Lawrence Egbelekpeke, Chairman of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, thanked the NDDC for the projects and commended the quality and impact of the work done.

The commissioning of the Ogu Community Road Network and Royal Hall marks another milestone in the NDDC’s efforts to enhance infrastructure and socio-economic development in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
