Port Harcourt Socialite Allegedly Sues SportyBet After App Crash

Port Harcourt’s popular city personality and philanthropist, Brian Dennis set social media alight with a jaw-dropping legal move against betting giant SportyBet Nigeria Limited.

Brian, well known in Port Harcourt’s nightlife and online circles for his outspoken persona, reportedly filed a suit at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja (Apo Division), claiming he suffered financial losses after SportyBet’s platform allegedly crashed during live football matches.

According to court documents dated January 29, 2026, Brian states that on January 28, he had active bets running when SportyBet’s website and mobile application became inaccessible for about 90 minutes. He claims the outage prevented him from monitoring or managing his live bets, leading to financial losses.

The suit argues that SportyBet owed him a duty to provide a functional platform for live betting and breached that duty by allowing the system to crash mid-games.

In a twist that has turned the case into an instant viral sensation, Brian is asking the court to award him “Elon Musk’s net worth” as compensation for his losses — a demand many Nigerians online have described as bold, hilarious, and peak Port Harcourt energy.

Beyond the headline-grabbing figure, the claimant is also seeking general damages for inconvenience and emotional distress, as well as the cost of the lawsuit.

Since the document surfaced online, reactions have ranged from laughter to admiration, with many calling it “cruise with legal backing,” while others debate whether the suit is serious litigation or an elaborate satire.

As of now, SportyBet has not publicly responded, but Brian Dennis has won the internet’s attention — and turned a betting app crash into one of the most entertaining legal stories of the year
