In a statement released on Sunday, January 18, 2026, President Tinubu highlighted the team’s strong spirit. He acknowledged that the loss to Morocco was heartbreaking for both the players and the fans. However, he was impressed by how quickly the squad recovered to face Egypt.

“I congratulate our gallant Super Eagles on their hard-earned bronze medal,” the President stated. He noted that the team showed great resilience during the competition. By overcoming Egypt, the players proved they are still among the best on the continent.

The President shared a very positive message with the players and the public. He emphasized that the value of the achievement goes beyond the color of the medal. Because of the effort shown on the pitch, he remarked that the Super Eagles AFCON 2025 bronze medal “surely feels good like gold.”

Consequently, this message has helped lift the spirits of many football fans across Nigeria. Many supporters were still upset about the officiating in the semi-final. Nevertheless, finishing on the podium is a significant achievement for the three-time African champion

President Tinubu concluded his message by reaffirming his support for the team. He addressed the players as “gallant” heroes who fought hard for the green and white flag. This success provides a great foundation for the team as they look forward to future international challenges.
