Fubara Revamps Amadi-Ama Centre, Boosts Rural Healthcare

The Rivers State Government has commissioned a fully revitalised Amadi-Ama Primary Health Care Centre, reinforcing Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare in rural communities across the state.

The upgraded facility was officially handed over to the Amadi-Ama community during a commissioning ceremony led by the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB), Dr Chituru Adele.

The event was accompanied by a two-day free medical outreach, during which residents received maternal health services, routine check-ups and treatment for chronic illnesses.

Speaking at the event, Dr Adele said the intervention reflects the state government’s resolve to strengthen primary healthcare delivery by rehabilitating neglected facilities and equipping them to meet modern standards. She noted that access to functional primary health centres remains critical to reducing preventable illnesses and maternal and child mortality in rural areas.

The revitalised Amadi-Ama centre has been fitted with modern medical equipment, new furniture and a solar-powered energy system to guarantee uninterrupted 24-hour service delivery. The solar installation is expected to improve emergency response and ensure consistent care, even during power outages.

Chairman of the RSPHCMB, Dr Dawari George, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, urged community members to take ownership of the facility and support its maintenance to ensure sustainability. They stressed that government investment must be matched with community responsibility to protect public assets.

Residents welcomed the development, describing it as a major relief after years of limited access to healthcare. The Amadi-Ama project forms part of a broader state-wide initiative by the Fubara administration to restore and modernise primary health centres, ensuring that every Rivers resident can access quality healthcare delivered by trained professionals, regardless of location.
