Two More Rivers Lawmakers Demand End to Impeachment Plot

Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly; Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency 1 and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, have called on their colleagues to withdraw the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.

This brings the total number of lawmakers who have taken this position to four within the last 48 hours.

According to them, their change of position followed interventions by well-meaning leaders and stakeholders in the state. They urged the Assembly to embrace dialogue and peaceful engagement in resolving the political crisis rather than pursuing impeachment.

With the latest development, four out of the 26 lawmakers who signed the notice of alleged misconduct have now publicly indicated support for a peaceful resolution of the impasse ahead of the resumption of plenary on January 15, 2026.

This follows an earlier announcement by the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma Constituency, and Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency, who both withdrew their support for the impeachment move.

The two lawmakers had made their position known during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, citing appeals from respected leaders within and outside the state.

They also called on their colleagues to suspend the impeachment process and explore peaceful means of resolving the crisis in the interest of peace and stability in Rivers State.
