Bonny Local Govt Mobilises Emergency Medical Aid for Fire Victims

Bonny Local Government has sprung into action following a devastating fire that swept through Macaulay Community behind the Police Station on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, leaving several residents displaced and injured.

The blaze, which affected 11 flats, prompted immediate intervention from the local administration. Represented at the scene by Vice Chairman Hon. Ibinyefagha Alabere, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Pepple, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families impacted and reassured them that the government’s support would be prompt and comprehensive.

In a decisive move, the Chairman ordered that all individuals injured in the fire receive free medical attention, including specialised care for a newborn baby who was affected by the incident.

Coordination of the emergency healthcare response has been assigned to the Office of the Supervisor for Health and Environment, led by Sir Hayford Banigo.

Speaking on behalf of residents, the caretaker of the building, Mr. Victor Edem, revealed that initial investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical fault shortly after power supply was restored to the affected flats.

Chairman Pepple reiterated that the welfare and safety of residents remain a top priority for his administration.

He urged the community to maintain vigilance, particularly when dealing with electrical installations, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The local government has assured that relief efforts, including medical care and other support measures, will continue until the affected families regain stability.
