Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, announced the burial date for his late deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during the 179th State Executive Council meeting.

In a statement shared on the Bayelsa State Government’s Facebook page on Wednesday after the meeting, the governor confirmed that Ewhrudjakpo would be laid to rest on Friday, 30 January.

Diri said the burial date was jointly approved by the family, the state government and the Catholic Church.

The governor further disclosed that the four-day burial programme would commence on Tuesday, 27 January, with sporting activities and continue on 28 and 29 January, before the funeral service and interment on 30 January in Ofoni, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.

Also, Governor Diri thanked Bayelsans for standing by his administration during difficult times and invited residents to take part in the various activities lined up for the burial.

At the same meeting, two awards received by the governor were formally presented to him. These included an award from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria for sponsoring its Annual General Meeting in Bayelsa and another from the Chartered Institute of Taxation for Exceptional Leadership.

The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Ebieri Jones, presented the awards to the governor after representing him at the two events.
