Residents Nab Suspect in Alleged Killing of Rivers Woman

Residents of a community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have apprehended a man suspected to be involved in the killing of a young woman identified as Rita Eleonu.

Rita, who hails from Ndele community, was reportedly killed after honouring a meeting arranged with a man she allegedly met through social media. Accounts from the area indicate that the connection began after her photograph was shared on WhatsApp by a friend, prompting the suspect to request a meeting.

It was gathered according to Elahub report, it noted that the man contacted Rita directly after obtaining her phone number and proposed a paid engagement. Although an initial meeting did not hold, the victim later agreed to meet him on another date.

Sources said Rita was allegedly attacked and killed shortly after arriving at the agreed location, sparking panic and outrage within the community. Details surrounding the circumstances of her death remain unclear as investigations continue.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly attempted to escape but was intercepted by vigilant residents, who subdued him and later handed him over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command has not released an official statement confirming the incident or providing further details on the suspect and the ongoing investigation.

The incident has once again raised concerns about safety, particularly in relation to meetings arranged through social media platforms, as residents call for thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
