Obeama-Asa Community Cries Out to Tinubu and Fubara Over Years of Marginalization

The people of Obeama-Asa community in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State, have issued an urgent appeal to the government. They are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara to end years of systemic neglect.

During a briefing with newsmen, the community highlighted a persistent lack of development, political exclusion, and the denial of chieftaincy recognition. High-Chief Mentor Onyeukwu, a prominent royal father in the area, expressed deep frustration over the situation.

A History of Neglect and Political Exclusion

According to High-Chief Onyeukwu, the Obeama-Asa community marginalization has lasted for many years. He lamented that previous administrations in both Rivers State and the Federal Government have taken their peaceful nature for granted.

Currently, the community lacks visible government projects and adequate political representation. Furthermore, the official recognition of their traditional stool remains unresolved. Onyeukwu argued that “quiet communities are often punished for their peace,” and this must change to ensure regional stability.

Deadly Boundary Disputes and Security Concerns

In addition to developmental neglect, the community is facing a growing security crisis. Onyeukwu revealed that encroachment issues have led to violent clashes. Specifically, he pointed to a dispute with the Agbeta community in Eleme Local Government Area.
