Speaking to waste management service providers, Wokoma highlighted the state government’s commitment to environmental sanitation, noting that RIWAMA has received adequate funding and empowerment from Governor Siminalayi Fubara to fulfill its mandate.

He announced that due to poor performance and negligence by some contractors, RIWAMA would take over waste evacuation services in several areas of Port Harcourt. Effective immediately, the agency will manage waste collection from Amadi-Ama to Abuloma Jetty, New Airport Road by Obiri Ikwerre to C4i, Rukpokwu Roundabout to Salvation Ministry Church in Rukpokwu, as well as Okporo Junction to Tank, East West Road, and St. John’s to Iwofe Waterside.

Dr. Wokoma urged all service providers to improve efficiency and ensure timely delivery of waste management services, stressing that consistent performance is crucial for a clean and healthy environment.

He also commended Governor Fubara for his ongoing support and commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing that the government remains dedicated to creating a clean, safe, and livable environment for all residents of Rivers State.

The agency said it will continue to monitor waste management services closely and take further measures if contractors fail to meet the required standards. RIWAMA remains focused on achieving a cleaner, healthier city for all residents, highlighting collaboration between the government, contractors, and communities as key to sustainable waste management.
