The Rivers State government has reaffirmed its commitment to consistently caring for veterans, widows of fallen officers, and officers in active service.
Juliana Masi, Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), stated that Dr Benibo Anabraba, the SSG, disclosed this on Thursday during the Central Planning Meeting for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Port Harcourt.
He commended the committee for their contributions to the success of the recent Emblem Appeal Fund Ceremony and urged them to intensify their efforts to ensure resounding success in the remaining activities.
According to Anabraba, events will begin with Jumaàt Prayers on Friday, 9 January, at the Rivers State Central Mosque in Port Harcourt Township.

A special day will also be hosted by the Wife of the Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, to celebrate and engage with widows and veterans.
“On Saturday, 10 January, a Humanitarian Outreach/Family and Community Day will be held for widows and veterans by Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Siminalayi, Wife of the Governor. On Sunday, 11 January, an Interdenominational Church Thanksgiving Service will hold at St. Cyprian Anglican Church, Port Harcourt Township, while the grand-finale Wreath-Laying Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 15 January, at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, Port Harcourt,” he said.
Anabraba highlighted that one of the event’s key moments will be the laying of wreaths by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the GSSRS, and heads of the state’s security agencies.
