Super Eagles Crush Mozambique Amid Drama

The Super Eagles of Nigeria thumped Mozambique to progress to the next phase of the Africa Cup of Nations, as the game ended 4–0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
In a decisive display, the Super Eagles dealt with the Mozambican national team, showing no mercy as they kept pressing and refused to take their foot off the pedal despite having a comfortable lead.
Early goals from Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen in the first half ensured that Mozambique had no time to build confidence or momentum that could have allowed them to threaten the Super Eagles at any point in the game.
The third goal came swiftly at the start of the second half via a tap in by Victor Osimhen, extinguishing any hopes the underdogs may have harboured while planning and strategizing during the halftime break.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has addressed the on-field altercation between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique.

Although Chelle appeared visibly uneasy on the touchline at the time, he declined to make a public judgment on the incident, insisting it would be handled internally. The coach stressed that matters arising on the pitch would remain within the team, noting that he would not disclose details of what transpired or how it would be resolved.

Sevilla’s sensational striker, Akor Adams, completed the scoring to take the game completely out of the reach of the Mozambicans.

There was a brief moment of tension between some Super Eagles players during the match showing how intentional they were. However, considering the high tempo at which Nigeria played, every other team in the competition will be wary, as the Super Eagles look hungry and eager to make a statement. This determination may be linked to their disappointment at missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico, the first tournament of its kind to be jointly hosted by three countries.

Up next for the Super Eagles will be a stiff test, as they will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Algeria, whoever emerges as their opponent. Recall that the Democratic Republic of Congo inflicted pain on the Super Eagles during the FIFA World Cup playoffs, setting up a rivalry that the footballing world is eagerly anticipating. While Algeria had eliminated Nigeria in the dying minute of the of the 2019 AFCON through a Mahrez free kick and then went on to lift the trophy.
