Rivers EXCO Approves ₦1.85trn 2026 ‘Budget of Resilience’

The Rivers State Executive Council (EXCO) approved a proposed ₦1.85 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year. Governor Siminalayi Fubara chaired the EXCO meeting, where approval was granted for the spending plan tagged “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.” The meeting was held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

In a statement released on Saturday via the state government’s Facebook page, the Special Adviser on Economic Matters, Prof. Peter Medee, said the budget would be deployed to complete ongoing projects across the state.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Medee added that the proposed budget would also be used to settle outstanding financial obligations of the state government.

He explained that priority sectors included infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, human capital development, culture, tourism and information and communications technology (ICT).

In November 2025, Port City News (TCPN) reported that Fubara pledged to present the 2026 budget at the ongoing Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) complex.

The governor gave the assurance while inspecting the project site alongside Boniface Emerengwa, the lawmaker representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency.

Fubara described the restoration of the Assembly chambers as a top priority, noting that lawmakers had been forced to operate from an alternative complex due to the condition of the permanent chambers.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to returning the Assembly to its rightful location, stating that the presentation of the 2026 budget would take place in the fully restored chambers.

The governor said his administration had worked diligently to ensure the permanent chambers were restored in time.
