PDP Slams Fubara’s APC Defection as ‘Betrayal’, Alleges Secret Deal With Tinubu

The Rivers State chapter of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betrayal following his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Port City News (TCPN) reported that Fubara joined the APC on 9 December 2025 and formally registered as a member of the party after receiving his membership card at Government House, Port Harcourt, on 12 December 2025.

The card was presented to him by the state APC chairman, Tony Okocha, who represented the party’s national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking at a recent press conference in Port Harcourt, Nname Ewor, a factional caretaker chairman of the PDP in the state, described Fubara’s defection amid the party’s crisis was a betrayal.

Ewor also spoke on President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis between Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly, claiming that part of the agreement required the governor not to seek a second term.

He further disclosed that the agreement included a directive for Fubara to reinstate Chief Ohna Awuse as chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council.

According to Ewor, another condition of the pact was the removal of Tammy Danagogo as Secretary to the State Government and Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.

However, he alleged that Fubara failed to comply with all the agreed terms, a development he said led to the collapse of the peace agreement and the subsequent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by Tinubu.

Ewor also maintained that Fubara entered into another agreement with the president before the emergency rule was lifted, a move he claimed ultimately led to the governor’s defection from the PDP to the APC.

He further alleged that following his defection, Fubara boasted that Tinubu would compel members of the state assembly to pass the 2026 budget and pressure the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to support his second-term re-election bid.

Ewor called on the governor to disclose to the people of Rivers State the full details of the agreement reached with Tinubu before the emergency rule was lifted.

He added that the mandate Fubara held belonged to the people of Rivers State and that his actions and inactions affected everyone whose mandate he represented.

“Therefore, it is incumbent on him at this material time to disclose to the people of Rivers State the terms of the peace agreement he entered into with President Tinubu before the emergency rule was lifted. This will enable the people to make informed decisions.

“Today, Fubara has taken our mandate to the APC, which, for all intents and purposes, is unjust,” Ewor said.
