The Wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, has visited the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, to welcome babies born at the dawn of the 2026 New Year.
Lady Fubara was represented during the visit by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Roseline Uranta, who explained that the New Year hospital visit is an annual tradition aimed at identifying with mothers, newborns and families, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the welfare of women and children across Rivers State.

She encouraged parents to raise their children with strong moral values, prayers and proper guidance, noting that parental support plays a vital role in shaping responsible and productive members of society.
Mrs Uranta also praised the dedication and professionalism of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers at RSUTH, particularly for their selfless service during the festive period, which ensures safe deliveries and quality maternal care.
Babies celebrated during the visit included Nsoror Enobong Sunday, who weighed 3.8 kilograms and was delivered at 9:45am on New Year’s Day, a set of twins, Kamisiyochukwu and Chikasome Emeh, as well as Dominion John.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chidindu Alikor, expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Government for its continued support, especially in infrastructural development, which he said has significantly improved service delivery at the hospital.
The Rivers State Government presented gifts to the newborns, while parents of the babies expressed gratitude for the kind gesture and support.
