NAWOJ Mourns Journalists Killed in Gombe Road Accident

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of seven journalists in a fatal motor accident along the Billiri–Kaltungo Road in Gombe State.

In a condolence message signed by the National Secretary, Wasilla Ladan, NAWOJ described the incident as a multiple blow to the journalism profession, noting that the loss has deeply shaken the media community.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening as the journalists were returning from the wedding ceremony of a colleague, a staff member of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Among those who lost their lives were two members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Gombe State Chapter.

The association also disclosed that four other journalists, including one NAWOJ member, sustained serious injuries in the crash and are currently receiving medical attention.

Reacting to the incident, NAWOJ President, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, described the tragedy as a devastating loss to journalism, particularly in Gombe State.

“NAWOJ is mourning the tragic loss of seven journalists who died in a devastating accident along the Billiri–Kaltungo Road,” she said.

She extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the injured journalists, and the entire media fraternity, praying for the repose of the souls of the departed and quick recovery for those injured.

According to the association, the incident has dealt a severe blow to the journalism community in Gombe State and Nigeria at large, considering the dedication and professional contributions of the affected journalists.
