The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, led top political figures to the colourful chieftaincy installation of the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Major M. Jack, as Alabo in Abonnema on Friday 26 December 2025.

The ceremony, held at the Da Iju Memorial Hall in Jack’s Compound, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, was performed by the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, King (Dr.) Disreal Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Gbobo 1, Owukori IX, amid rich traditional displays, cultural dances and pomp.

Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, attended the event alongside his wife and several lawmakers.

Speaking to journalists afterwards, Speaker Amaewhule praised the new Alabo Major Jack for demonstrating exemplary leadership as a principal officer in the House and in service to his Abonnema community.

“He has consistently exhibited good leadership qualities both in the House and in his community,” the Speaker said.

The event drew a large crowd of dignitaries, including other political heavyweights, traditional rulers from across Rivers State and well-wishers from far and near.

The installation underscores the blend of politics and tradition in Rivers State, where community honours often recognise contributions to public service.

Hon. Major Jack, a key figure in the Tenth Assembly, now bears the revered Alabo title, signifying his elevated status in Kalabari tradition.
