Another wave of defections hit the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as six of its members representing Rivers State in the House of Representatives defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers joined the APC from the PDP. They were Dumnamere Dekor (Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency), Solomon Bob (Abua/Odual and Ahoada East Federal Constituency), and Hart Cyril (Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency).
Others were Victor Obuzor (Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema/Ndoni Federal Constituency), Blessing Amadi (Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency), and Felix Nweke (Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai Federal Constituency).
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defections during Tuesday’s plenary session. He read the lawmakers’ letters to the House and, after the defection, invited them to the dais for photographs.
Those who witnessed the defections included Victor Gaidam, National Vice-Chairman (South-South); Felix Morka, National Spokesperson; Dayo Israel, National Youth Leader; and Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the APC.
The defections came five days after four Rivers lawmakers also defected to the APC. They included Umezuruike Manuchim (Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency), who defected from the Labour Party, as well as Boniface Emerengwa (Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency), Awaji-Inombek Abiante (Opobo/Nkoro/Andoni Federal Constituency), and Boma Goodhead (Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency), all of whom left the PDP.

The development followed the defection of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the PDP to the APC on December 5, 2025.
In a related move, Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, also resigned his membership of the PDP and defected to the APC alongside 16 other lawmakers.
Those who defected with Amaewhule included the Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol (Gokana), Major Jack (Akuku-Toru), Linda Stewart (Okrika), Franklin Nwabochi (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni), Azeru Opara (Port Harcourt III), Smart Adoki (Port Harcourt II), Enemi George (Asari-Toru II), and Solomon Wami (Port Harcourt I).
Others were Igwe Aforji (Eleme), Tekena Wellington (Asari-Toru I), Looloo Opuende (Akuku-Toru II), Peter Abbey (Degema), Arnold Dennis (Ogu/Bolo), Chimezie Nwankwo (Etche), Gerald Oforji (Oyigbo), and Ofiks Kabang (Andoni).
