Transparency, Development Take Centre Stage as Fubara Commissions Obodhi–Ozochi Road

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday inaugurated the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road at the Ozochi playground in Ahoada East Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and prudent financial management.

Fubara revealed that the commissioned road had been initiated on November 8, 2022, by the administration of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. He said the inauguration formed part of efforts to strengthen development and political engagement in Ahoada East and West.

The governor added that the project had been almost completed when he assumed office, noting that his administration sustained and expanded it.

“To show our appreciation for the support of your son, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, we extended the project by an additional 4.4 kilometres, bringing it to the 14.2 kilometres we are commissioning today,” Fubara said.

He further lauded the community for its support and for presenting 14 cows, one for each kilometre of road commissioned.

Addressing lingering public concerns over state finances, the governor said every penny spent was on record. According to him, evidence of this would be made available within the next six months.

“Nobody can question my sincerity or genuineness. I am not associated with fraudulent acts. My professional background is in accounts, and record-keeping is my strength,” he said.

The governor added that his public service record, spanning the administrations of former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Wike, had remained unblemished.

He reiterated his development philosophy, stating that his administration prioritised completing and commissioning projects rather than engaging in ceremonial flag-offs.

“We don’t believe in flagging off projects, wasting money, or abandoning them. We believe in commissioning what we have truly delivered with the people’s money.

“We are using your money for the betterment of Rivers State and for projects like this one you see today,” Fubara said. “We will not let you down.”
