The political crisis rocking Rivers State deepened on Thursday as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara was lying.
He said the governor lied when he claimed he was unable to meet with the lawmakers since the state of emergency was called off.
The Port City News (TCPN) reported that Fubara had revealed that he had no issues with the lawmakers and insisted he was not avoiding them.
Fubara, who spoke at the commissioning of the extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, said arrangements had already been made for a meeting with the lawmakers.
Amaewhule disclosed that Fubara’s predecessor and FCT Minister had called a meeting with the governor and principal officials of the Assembly when President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule.

He said he was in the meeting, adding: “It’s important I make this clarification. First and foremost, the governor lied when he said he hasn’t been able to meet with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
According to him, the lawmakers had met with Fubara on several occasions.
He characterised the governor’s comments as insincere and an attempt to create a breakdown in communication, which he believed was setting the stage for yet another political crisis in the state.
Amaewhule urged citizens to disregard Fubara’s claim and remain vigilant as political tensions persisted.
It could be recalled that in June, Tinubu met with Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule, and other members of the Assembly to reconcile them. Fubara and Wike were later seen attending a ceremony together in the state.
