In bold strides toward sustainable growth, the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed its commitment to broadening Rivers State’s economic landscape beyond oil dependence.
Speaking with newsmen in Port-Harcourt on the quality service delivery of the present administration led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Kuru Sirawoo, emphasized the government’s readiness to deepen productivity by pursuing multi-dimensional development strategies.
Dr. Sirawoo noted that the Governor’s vision reflects a shift toward inclusiveness, enterprise, and innovation.”The time has come for Rivers State to harness opportunities across agriculture, the blue economy, manufacturing, technology, tourism, and creative sectors. Diversification is no longer a choice; it is a necessity,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that synergy across ministries, agencies, local governments, private investors, and civil society will define the pace and success of the transformation.
According to him, the new economic direction seeks to create jobs, improve internally generated revenue, support MSMEs, and uplift communities through sustainable development.
He believed the policy heralds a turning point, saying that with Rivers State rich in human and natural resources, diversification could strengthen resilience, reduce poverty, and foster Inclusive prosperity.

Dr Sirawoo further maintained that for decades, Rivers State has been the financial heartbeat of Nigeria’s oil industry, noting that, even within the blessing of oil, the state’s economic growth has often been vulnerable, inconsistent, and limited to a single revenue stream.
“Now, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is taking unprecedented steps to rewrite the narrative. “Countries and regions that once thrived on crude are now pivoting to agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and tourism. Rivers State should not be left out.
But diversification is not merely a policy decision; it requires discipline, synergy, and collaboration at every level of governance and society. Ministries must work coherently, not competitively. Private sector players must be encouraged, not intimidated. Communities must see themselves as partners, not spectators”.
“If properly executed, diversification can unlock an era of wealth creation that surpasses oil revenue. The tide of change is here with us under the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“Rivers State must ride it boldly,” Dr Honour Sirawoo declared. He, however, reiterated the state’s government preparedness under Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration, to fully diversify the state’s economy for enhanced productivity and sustainable development.
He stressed that Governor Fubara’s administration is currently focusing on expanding opportunities across multiple sectors for better and lasting development results.
Dr Sirawoo identified agriculture, blue economy development, technology, manufacturing, and tourism as critical frontiers for investment while emphasizing that synergy among all stakeholders will be crucial to achieving the administration’s goals.
Dr Honour Sirawoo used the opportunity to call on MDAs, private sector partners, and communities to collaborate with the government in building a resilient economy that benefits present and future generations.
